These four prints are part of a 2015 textile collection entitled, "Inner Worlds". “Inner Worlds” is a watercolour-based textile collection primarily inspired by the inner, secret worlds and gardens depicted in Yayoi Kusama's earliest paintings. Incorporating colourful motifs of imaginary universes and of what inhabits them, the collection explores the inner worlds that reside in the depths of each and every one of us in order to escape our often unfulfilled, monotonous realities. Just as Kusama implemented motifs of infinity throughout her work to both metaphorically and physically obliterate her own crippling anxieties, Inner Worlds seeks to transform the repetitiveness of our collective fears and ruminations into joyful, dreamy repeats. Through the collection’s bright representations of secret worlds and gardens where even fish and flora coexist, Inner Worlds ultimately depicts human hopes and desires as salvation.
