Without a doubt, nail art and design has become a culture within itself. The continuous change of trends and influences from places like Thailand, Japan, India, Korea, and Tokyo, to name a few, have all contributed to the brilliant designs, colours, and textures that sum up the booming industry of what we know it to be today. With the intense progression and development of nail art throughout the past eight decades in North America, it’s important to sell the story of how we’ve grown into this billion-dollar industry. Not only that, but to also recognize how people from the high-fashion catwalks, all the way to the working nine to fivers, have been hopping onto this creative and expressive bandwagon. Through an eight-page editorial, my capstone, Nail Art and Design, will express the progression and development in nail art trends that were relevant during their decade, in conjunction with the fashion and culture that were seen during its time. My goal is to express and sell a lifestyle, a story, and phenomenon and its important progression in understanding how we’ve come to create this industry that has proven to be a culture within itself, today.
